Der Workshop findet dank einer Kooperation mit dem Einstein-Forschungsprojekt „Autonomie und Funktionalisierung – eine kulturhistorisch-ästhetische Analyse der Kunstbegriffe in den Bildenden Künsten in Berlin seit den 1990er Jahren bis heute“ des Instituts für Geschichte und Theorie der Gestaltung (Universität der Künste Berlin) statt, das im Rahmen der Abschlusstagung Sharon Zukin als Keynote-Lecturer eingeladen hat.

Abstract
The Innovation Complex: Cities, Tech, and the New Economy examines the recent development of New York’s tech economy in geographical, organizational, and discursive spaces, connecting local government policies for the tech industry, the growth of venture capital, and changes in the global economy. Weaving together interviews with significant actors and ethnographic observations at significant events, the book shows how the idea of innovation is used to reshape a city’s geography and re-imagine its future. Data and interpretation are presented as a series of nested spaces, beginning with hackathons and moving to larger scales through meetups, accelerators, venture capitalists‘ offices, the Brooklyn waterfront, and citywide educational „pipelines“ to tech jobs. The Innovation Complex will be published by Oxford University Press in New York in March 2020.
Bio
Sharon Zukin is professor of sociology at Brooklyn College and at the CUNY Graduate Center, and the author of books on urban, cultural and economic change. She was Broeklundian Professor from 1996 to 2008, and held the Carol Zicklin endowed chair in the Honors Academy at Brooklyn College in 2015-16. Zukin received the Lynd Award for Career Achievement in urban sociology, from the American Sociological Association, and the C. Wright Mills Book Award for Landscapes of Power. She has been a visiting professor at Tongji University in Shanghai, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Western Sydney, and the Ecole Normale Superieure-Jourdan, and has recently been a distinguished fellow in the Advanced Research Collaborative at the CUNY Graduate Center.
