Idea(l)s of Home Disentangled

10. October 13:00 – 17:00 Uhr

In this interdisciplinary workshop we aim to reflect on our experiences in researching home and the “lessness” thereof in diverse urban contexts. Reflecting on the intricacies and the emotional labor involved in doing this kind of research, this workshop seeks to spark discussions on how we can think differently about our research practice, fieldwork, positionality, and the political implications of our work.

After some short inputs by the workshop organizers, we will open the conversation to the workshop participants. We hope to create a space in which the ideas put forward speak to and promote a collective, care, and rights-based understanding of home through the lens of inclusiveness, equity, diversity, and justice.
Building on these discussions, we will then have a keynote lecture followed by Q&A with Prof. Michele Lancione on his book For a Liberatory Politics of Home.

Michele Lancione (he/they) is Professor of Geography at the Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, and Visiting Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Sheffield, UK. He is the co-director, with AbdouMaliq Simone, of the Beyond Inhabitation Lab (www.beyondinhabitation.org), and corresponding editor at IJURR. His latest monograph is titled ‘For a Liberatory Politics of Home’ (Duke University Press).

By bringing researchers from various backgrounds together, we hope that this workshop can be the starting point of new research
networks and collegial exchange.

The event will be held in hybrid format. The Workshop takes place at Ernst-Reuter Platz 1, Building BH-N, 2nd floor, room 233. Participation is free of charge.

As on-site spots are limited, we ask interested participants to register in advance until 30th of September 2025 with an e-mail to: e.korte@tu-berlin.de. Please indicate whether you want to participate in person or online. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants prior to the event.
